Pulp just had that something that other 90's bands didn't. They were big but should have been colossal

Track is a reflection on nostalgia, friendship, and a fractured relationship. It tells the story of two people whose relationship has changed over time; the singer is bemoaning the current state of the affair but fondly remembering the "first time" they were together. He acknowledges that she may choose to continue with her current partner, and he is okay with that as long as she still holds a place for him in her heart. The song speaks to the endless cycle of time and how despite change, love can endure.

this song is literally amazing in every way possible, i love it whenever i hear the rough guitar strums whenever he sings “do you remember the first time?”
literally breath taking.

One thing Johnny Marr definitely should have recognition for, is that Pulp would've sounded completely different without him

In past 12 years honestly i've listened to this about 12 567 times but more and more do I just want to hear it again and again singing and dancing along. It's s

You say you've got to go home
'cause he's sitting on his own again this evening.
I know you're gonna let him bore your pants off again.
Oh God, it's half past eight,
You'll be late.
You say you've never been sure,
Though it makes good sense for you to be together.
Still you bought a toy that can reach the places he never goes.
Oh, now it's getting late.
He's so straight.
Do you remember the first time?
I can't remember a worse time.
But you know that we've changed so much since then,
Oh yeah,
We've grown.
Now I don't care what you're doing,
No I don't care if you screw him.
Just as long as you save a piece for me,
Oh yeah
You say you've got to go home.
Well at least there's someone there that you can talk to.
And you never have to face up to the night on your own.
Jesus, it must be great to be straight.
Do you remember the first time?
I can't remember a worse time.
But you know that we've changed so much since then,
Oh yeah,
We've grown.
Now I don't care what you're doing,
No I don't care if you screw him.
Just as long as you save a piece for me,
Oh yeah

Capture your soul music. We've all been there watching some underserved with the person you would give anything for. Yes I turned 'underserved' from an adjective into a noun because it is the best title for these complacent bastards who casually waste a love much better people should have. What a cathartic gem of a song!

In the 90s I was really into my dance and trance. I remember songs like this being on the top 40 but never really paid much attention. All these years later in 2021 I am revisiting and really feeling all of these tunes! What an amazing band...better than the Blur and Oasis stuff and rivalry.

Somehow it makes me feel ridiculously thankful for the 90s ans growing up in those times. Nostalgic but so happy!

Certain songs remind you of certain times in your life....I remember going to Blue Train Records in college and just looking through the stacks of cds. Back when you had to actually go to a store to buy music....lol! The manager Jay was a big fan of the Britpop scene so bands like pulp were played on heavy rotation in the store.
