I got a ticket from the private company that runs the Aldi car parks - I was 6 mins over my ‘allocated time’! I never paid it - I instead sent Aldi a polite email and a screenshot of my shopping bill and basically said ‘don’t you think I spent enough money in your store??!! And you only had 1 cashier on with a massive queue of people - sod off!’
Didn’t hear anything back…!

Please please do not deface, damage or break these machines. Do not spray them with black paint or fill their internals with expanding foam. Please do not damage them in any way. Do not squirt super glue into their internal mechanisms or damage the keypads or scanners/cameras with paint glue or oil. Thank you and stay safe! Oh and definitely do not set fire to them!

I had an FPN (Fixed Penalty Notice) left on my windscreen back last year. I was a bit confused as I had a valid ticket on the dash of my car. I went online to appeal this and it was described as I "Was not displaying a ticket." On looking at the evidence photos they had taken, two of them clearly showed a ticket on my dashboard, though the enforcement Officer has angled it nicely so the sun glint on the windscreen partially hid the ticket on one photo.

I pointed out their own evidence clearly shows a ticket on display so I'm unsure why I had been given the FPN. I heard nothing more for several months.

I then later received a reply where they now claimed "perhaps the EO meant that the ticket shown was invalid and it is IMPOSSIBLE to determine that from the photographs so could I present them with the ticket I used that day to prove my innocence.
Now bear in mind this was 4-5 months after the initial event and I had long disposed of the tickets in my car along with any other rubbish that accumulates. Also bear in mind that the original FPN clearly stated "not having a ticket on display" nothing about incorrect dates & they later claimed it was impossible to determine if the ticket was valid from the photos.

I managed to achieve the impossible by simply zooming in on their own evidence photo and it clearly showed the date on the ticket was valid.

My next communication with them was less polite, I pointed out they are changing the reason for the FPN being issued from it's original reason when it was pointed out their claim was invalid & I also disproved their new attempt to move the goalposts again by using
their own evidence. Any further attempts to prosecute me for this will be dealt with by a legal representative and I suggested they do the same.

They immediately replied saying the matter was now closed.
They rely on people not being bothered and just paying the FPN to get it out of the way.

I just put £1.40 in a parking machine while man on his phone tried to pay using the App.
I was on my way while he was still faffing around with the App.

Haven't been caught out by the scam, but have fallen foul of the 'pay by app' thing in Cornwall, where I couldn't get a mobile phone signal to pay. My fave surf spot used to have a bloke in a hut, they retired him and put in contactless machines, and everytime I've visited since, one is always broken.

What upsets me is we are being made to pay for a system that is not as convenient and that actually saves money for the local authorities as they dont need to pay to have the machines emptied..

Very simple, print a label. 'Anything placed on this vehicle, without written prior consent will incur a charge of £xxxx's. This is non negotiable, and failing to see the notice, is not an excuse' = place them in all visible areas of the vehicle. Park anywhere you want.

Wait till they stick different QR Code sticker over the real ones and get you to direct link to their app or webpage. 🤣

This whole contactless and digital currency crap has made it easier for scammers to fleece you also easy for banks, companies and the government to track you. At least with real money you go to the meter pop the coins in and ta-da! You get a ticket to shove in your windscreen sod apps and websites we all need to at least use cash once a week.

Im more concerned about the fact that more and more you are forced to carry a smartphone on you at all times... i for one Like to leave my phone at home when i go out a lot of the time not to mention that if im working im only carrying a text and dail phone...

They've gone digital in our town (in places) ANDY, the excuse was theft of money from the meters, the ASDA have a multistory with cash meters ( CCTV surveillance on each machine ) I wont use my bank card details on any non registered appliance, if I have to I'll use the Mastercard one, you can be refunded easier on there in the event of a scam .
