my grandma loved this song and used to sing it around the house. We had it played at her funeral and whilst it was playing my cousin decided he was going to sing along quietly which had all of us in the front row chuckling. the people behind must have thought we were mad but it put a smile on our faces at what was an incredibly sad moment, my grandma would have loved. it leaves me with a happier memory.

There's something incredibly sad and beautiful about these wartime songs. You can sense that there's young people who have been thrown into this situation when their life should really be just beginning but now they have to face this deadly catastrophe, a totally avoidable, man-made catastrophe may I add, and just make the best of it and try to survive. So they try and enjoy the rare happy moments they have, try to cheer each other up and make as if it's not such a big deal, full well knowing that not all of them are going to make it. Some will be maimed for life, either mentally or physically or both, while some will soon become only a memory. Terrifying, but also beautiful in it's humanity.

My nan said she had a dream about her funeral and this song was playing as everyone left the crem and she was looking down trying to tell people to sit back down and listen to her last song. So 13 years ago we played this song last at her funeral and everyone stayed seated until the end. I cant listen to this song without being in floods of tears. I miss her so much, i have and had such strong ladys in my life ❤

My first exposure to an English song was "WISH ME LUCK " in 1956.I was 7 and studied in a Chinese primary school.
We did not learn English then.
The class was taught the song to sing in a school concert..The only words I could remember was >WISH ME LUCK, ME GOODBYE.CHERIO !'

This song was a favourite song of my dear friend Sheilah. It was played at her funeral on Friday 6 March 2021 she lived to be 103.
I will miss her dearly she loved to sing and would share stories from her journey in life. I will also miss her funny sense of humour she had a way to make you laugh.
