in my opinion, the air flow supplied by the original fan is correctly calculated by the factory to disipate the heat. but when you reduce the fan speed, it will reduce the air flow supply as well.
and that could make it overheat or the worst burn the lamp, lcd, or any part of the projector.

I got a high performance and silent 90 x 90 x 25 mm pc fan and put it on a optoma hd 26. it's way better than the stock fan. no need to lower the voltage just get a silent fan

With mine I just installed 2W/22Ω resistor for only €0.07. It dropped the voltage on the fan from 12v to 7.5v. I can now watch movies without being annoyed :)

Was expecting something like replacing the fan with a noctua one but instead it showed me how to make the projector go burn burn

Silent fan = fan off? So the projector overheats, catches fire, burns down your house. At least you didn't have that annoying fan noise.

LOL silent fan = reduce its speed? DON'T DO THIS.
Lass speed = less air = more heat = BYE BYE projector.
dumb video

Can you please post information about the FAN specifications and perhaps links to compatible replacement fans? I wouldn't mind spending $20 on a PC fan, still would be a good deal regardless!

Is this a 100 ohm Potentiometer? Do you happen to have a link or item name by chance? This should help anyone like me looking for this dial/controller.

Very nice, could you also show us how to change the main LED?

My lamp just burnt out today (100% stock and no modifications) and I tried finding a replacement bridgelux led but I cant seem to find anything. What can be a good alternative?

I've manage tried this and though the voltage controller was a little bigger as it had a small circuit board attached I've managed to squeeze it into the case.. gonna try and enclude a 40mm case fan at the back near the lamp to aid cooling.

I wonder why LED projectors need so much active cooling when an LED light bulb is barely warm after hours of use. The power of a projector lamp should not be more powerful than an LED flood light.

You could probably replace it with a really nice $20 fan from newegg no? Has anyone tried this?

Nice dirty little trick! Is it stillrunning? I also wonder if it helps to remove some of the plastic at the spot where the air exits the beamer. Im thinking it might facilitate a better airflow and so a higher efficiency at a lower voltage. Get what I mean?

This doesn't make sense. You need the full power of the fan to properly cool the internals otherwise they're going to burn out. Why don't you replace the fan instead? That's what I'm planning to do when mine arrives.

How long did it last after this? Did it burnt too bad???

Can some1 show me how to change the lamp? or even better: upgrade the lamp (but then a new powersupply is needed right?)

my FG857 is giving me cancer at night, have resorted to use headphones, im seriously thinking about sticking a cpu 240mm AIO cooler to the lamp heatsink, but there's a second fan, a blower fan which is all the more annoying, that seems like its for the PSU or LCD and I have no idea how to replace that crap, its there pushing air through a tiny tube I think

is there any way to check the thing's temperature? there is just no certainty of anything doing a mod like this, no way to tell the temp, to set a baseline, no idea if it actually shuts down at critical temp, no info about the PSU and what fans could I power from it, nothing
