Great video Ms. Lilly! But from my old US Army days, I have to quote my old RI, "the most important weapons you have in your arsenal that will increase your odds of survival in any combat or survival situation is your state of mind and your training! I like the videos.. Keep em coming :-)

Great stuff. We have a sling video coming up today

i saw a guy with a sling up the river where i live. he used a single drop then overhand stroke which would propel a fist sized or better rock across the water and into a rock wall with enough force to shatter the rock. it was also fast to load. i was impressed. he didn't swing it roundy round horizontally like one sees most of the time. he would fit a rock, let it drop, and bring it over in a smooth single throwing motion. almost like an atlatl stroke. accurate and powerful!

I don’t think it should be any surprise that the bow and arrow came out on top of this list. If anything, this should go to show that out of all the weapons prior to modern times, it is the bow and arrow that has survived all the way up to this day and age. And will very likely continue to stand side by side with firearms for many, many more years.

I’ve actually made a bow using a PVC pipe and driveway markers shoved into it. And although I’m not the best with using it (I’m actually a bit more experienced with guns) the fun that I have shooting it on targets keeps my enthusiasm going in wanting to get better and better using such a legendary hunting tool. As far as the arrows is concerned, I usually use driveway markers and fletch them with arts and crafts feathers and strings combined with wood glue. And honestly they work pretty well.

I love the Throwing Stick. When I was a kid I use to use the Throwing Stick against my brothers and sisters and parents and it works very well to take down large predators.

for me top 5? 1. gun 2. bow 3. slingshot 4. throwing stick 5. just throwing rocks. like throwing baseballs at 50 mph. #6. actually making primitive hole traps with sharp stakes on bottom of hole. You'd be suprised how easy it is to just get an animal to fall into a hole. also a deer will always jump over a small log in the path, so, American Indians put a medium sized log on a path, then dug a hole in front of the log, cover it up, deer jumps over and breaks its legs in hole. You get 100 lbs of meat with no weapon needed! Like fish traps over nite while your sleeping. next day you have fish. lots of ideas like these out there for thousands of years. how to hunt without any weapons? just out smarting the animals. thanks

I've been using a woomera for a few years now. It's functionally identical to an atlatl and was developed independently by indigenous Australians as a means to accelerate heavier throwing spears to quite insane speeds. With a little bit of practice, it can be the next best thing to a bow. In lieu of good cordage to make a bow with, you can't go wrong with an atlatl or a woomera. Easy to construct with readily available materials.

Outstanding, of course. A long time ago, I accepted that I would not have the time after shtf to make those durable/effective tools. This was based upon my life experience. Moreover, I also considered that I would have to take a lot of time in practice after shtf. So, I purchased them all/made commercially of the finest materials and acquired spare parts.

It does take weeks to go from a sedentary, chairbound existence to being active outdoors 24/7. Moreover, there will be stress, illnesses, and other challenges.

Great video, I think the sling (5) is very underrated and have never seen it on any of the reality TY survivor shows.
As a kid we used to attack each and got many bruises from putting a lump of clay on the end of stick and throwing it at each other. It could be effective in hunting small game and birds.
My understanding of fire hardening should be done without oxygen. One puts the spear or arrow tip in soil beneath the fire. The wood is devolatilized and hardened.

As always.

For the bolas and sling, you'd have a much easier time if you'd made them shorter. Also it looked like bolas had even length strings. If one of them is shorter than the others, they will naturally spin open.

I'll stick with my sks its light accurate and ammo is cheap and plentiful when you buy it by the case. If that fails I have 5 other rifles as back up.

Just picked up a blow gun and a handheld crossbow. Fully equipped with an inner dragon and developing reason to be accurate.
