This one hits very close to home. As a veteran, I have friends with PTSD who are still very much in pain. I had tears through most of this. Great story.

It is quite rate that stories exude so many emotions in me. Happy crying. Sad crying. Extreme laughter. Pride and contentment. This channel has reached new levels with some of their most recent stories. With several of their multi part stories recently I haven't been able to get much work done. I think my pride for our military reaches another level as this story (whether born in a real happening or just fantasy) runs along the lines as some of my friends from Ft Bragg who were in Special Forces tell similar stories.

Truley one of if not the best.

Back in '97/98 I worked as a massage therapist in a pain and rehab center in SW Virginia. I had the honor of meeting and befriending many vets, mostly from Vietnam. The doc who ran the clinic never charged his vets as his FIL was still mia from the Korean war. Anyway, one my patients related a story much like that of Jonas. They were on the edge of a rice patty. There were a bunch of kids crossing the field. They were carrying satchel charges and other explosives. The leuy ordered his men to take out rhe kids. My friend refused. When confronted by the commanding officer, he explained. Those kids are doing this because they are forced to and don't deserve to die, the Viet Kong are watching. The first time we fire the Kong will drop morters on us like spring rain, we will all die. His CO thought about it and rescinded his order. Many lives were saved that day, both American and Vietnamese. All because a seasoned veteran had the presence of mind and a heart of compassion spoke up and an officer had enough common sence and lack of excessive ego to listen.
