British author Hilary Mantel dies aged 70

Award-winning British author, Dame Hilary Mantel, has died at the age of 70.

In a statement, her publisher, HarperCollins, announced that the author had died suddenly but peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.

Ms Mantel was best known for her best-selling Wolf Hall trilogy.

Sorry, as a novelist posing as an historian I do not consider her the greatest novelist. She told a story around Henry VIII's court and Thomas Cromwell the arch conspirator it was awarded a literary prize but most of the prize winners over the years have not been necessarily great, just successful at marketing. The Harry Potter books have more merit, they at least encouraged children to read. I am sorry for Mrs Mantel's family and friends' loss.
