Показать описание
This video demonstrates how to resolve a vector into its horizontal and vertical components. The video shows how to use components to write a vector in component form and includes an example that uses components to solve an application problem. This lesson was created for the Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) in the province of Ontario, Canada.

Thank you so much :)
Very fundamental concept in physics, which not many have the ability to explain.

Heading is just the direction something is going or pointing towards as it moves, such as due east or N 30 degrees W. Bearing is naming a direction with an angle measured clockwise from north. So, for example, east is 90 degrees rotated from north, so due east has a bearing of 90 degrees. South is another 90 degrees past east so due south has a bearing of 180 degrees. If you were going 20 degrees past south we could call that S 20 W, but the bearing would be 200 degrees.

@sammiepie4 I'm sorry, but I don't see the error you refer to. Vector p is at a bearing of 310 degrees, meaning it is 40 degrees passed due west (270 + 40 = 310). If vector p makes a 40 degree angle with the negative x axis then it makes a 140 degree angle (180 - 40 = 140) with the positive x axis or due East. Am I missing something?

@Jazz0z Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I do have a video on Three Dimensional Vectors and some others on equations of lines and planes in 2 dimensional and three dimensional space.

Thanks for another great video

I especially liked that you used the example from your previous lesson it was really useful to compare the two and see which solving method I liked the best.

But one thing I noticed was you have the wrong angle in this example. The angle 140 degrees should be 120 degrees.

@AlRichards314 There is a 20 degree angle of the wind, which means 140-20= 120 i think that is what he was referring to

What is the difference between heading and bearing?

Reply to Aaditya Paudel comment:
Vectors have a direction (and magnitude) but a vector doesn't just represent a direction.  In the first example the direction is the angle theta above the positive x axis.  Is that what you were asking about?

Thank you.

i am a little bit confused about having vectors in space. Can we add them the same way? Like first adding vectors in plane and then in space!!!

Better taught than my college instructor. Man they only care about their money here.

Is it really necessary to rotate the axis on example 2? It seems to be more complicated than applying on the original.

Do You know how to find the horizontal and vertical componentes of a vertical verctor, I mean, if it has 90°?

if only magnitude of two vectors and the angle between them is given . then how can we find the magnitude of resultant by rectangular component method

If you're using SOHCAHTOA to figure out the values of the vectors |rh| and |rv| why not just stick to using one unit? I mean, like for example, using the sine of the angle to figure out the values of the horizontal & vertical components?

Also, if |rh|+|rv|=|r|, then explain the math 75N+185N being equal to 200N.

A little help please
