I feel like a lot of people here don't understand Alex. Why does he love Jo? Because before he met her in season 9 he was lonely, sleeping around, being too scared to fall in love again after how terrible things went with Rebecca, Izzie, Lucy..

If you can still recall, he fell for Jo because she was an amazing friend to him, bought him a couch and stole donuts for him and he could tell her things about his past he never told anyone because she understood him better than anyone. But despite falling for her he couldn't tell her because like he said to Arizona during the storm in the s9 finale, he felt like damaged goods.

Like every woman he loved turned out to be crazy or cancery or left. Now imagine that Alex and compare him to the Alex you watched in s12 who gave people relationship advice. Why could he do that? Because ever since Jo became his girlfriend she was there for him no matter what. When his dad showed up, when his friends voted for a rule to prohibit his relationship with Jo, when he wanted to join Private Practice and she encouraged him, when all his friends voted against him during the board presentation against Bailey for the seat Cristina left him.

Can you imagine that in all those times he felt like Jo was the only one who had his back? I don't think he ever felt so loved and supported like he does with Jo and that's why it's a no brainer for me why he wants to marry her. The man who was too scared to go into a relationship again became so secure in one that he wants to get married again, something I didn't think he'd ever want after how bad things ended with Izzie. When you talk about Alex's development you always leave Jo out but she played a huge role in it. If it hadn't been for her he wouldn't be the guy he is today.

But he always had anger issues and it is NOT Jo's fault that he ended up beating up an innocent guy. He should've taken a second to think and let DeLuca explain. That's not on Jo and I find it disgusting how you all blame everything on her. Blame her for not having told Alex about her husband but even then, her having been beaten up on a daily basis to a point she had to run away should be a bigger deal than her not being able to tell Alex. She's traumatized after all. Jo has always made it clear to me how much she loves and values Alex.

You think if she thought telling him would've been an option she wouldn't have? You think she liked losing him over this when she called him the love of her life? You know, domestic violence is a horrible thing many women have to endure. You can't know beforehand if the guy you marry ends up abusing you. But instead of showing some sympathy for women like Jo you bash her mercilessly and I find this extremely misogynistic. Owen can be the biggest jerk for most of s12 and you still only end up calling the women annoying, either Jo or Amelia or April. You never complain about the guys. And Jo has done NOTHING that justifies the ugly comments you post about her here.

Meredith has treated her worse than Jo has treated anybody, and according to the actresses they didn't even understand why because Meredith had liked Jo just fine until Cristina left and she needed Alex to vent to. I don't know if people will like this post but it's the truth and I hope a lot of people at least read it.

You don't have to like Jo and Alex as a couple but at least show a little sympathy for a female character who represents foster children and domestic abuse victims.

I get why a lot of people are hating on Alex at the moment, but he's not that much of a bad guy (what he did was really shit though). Like Mer said, he has two sides to him. But you've got to give him credit when he didn't run away from the problem like he usually does. He actually faced it like a man and it just shows how much his character has grown and matured. I may be 'team Alex' but I still feel shit awful for what happened with DeLuca because he didn't deserve that either. I'm so conflicted and bias because of my love for Alex and its so difficult!

Just because Alex and Mer are character we have loved for years doesn't mean we should side with them. DeLuca is literally the biggest victim in this, he tried to help Jo and was beaten within an inch of his life. Alex should rot in prison.

I like the darker approach to work/personal life this season. Especially since this season seems to be very much focused on the season 1 veterans, makes diving deeper into their relationships after all these years even more meaningful. No more ghost lovers or random plane crashers or mass murdering shooters, just plain everyday drama that anyone could encounter,

I am so mad with what Shonda is turning Alex into. His character has grown and matured so much over the seasons. He was a respected doctor... a good surgeon. He finally had a solid relationship and then they go and turn him back into the kid from the streets. Why Shonda why?
It's not that I'm okay with what he did, I'm not. But I don't want him to go to jail. Please, no. 😭
