Massive Serpent Shadow

Chichen Itza is the most popular spot in Mexico to celebrate the spring equinox. During the spring equinox, thousands of visitors gather to witness the phenomena of the light and shadow movements, like the serpent that descends upon the steps of the Castillo Pyramid. It looks like a 120 ft length snake is creeping downstairs until it joins the serpent’s head at the bottom of the stairway. Equinox in Chichen Itza is truly a dramatic display of Mayan Astronomical knowledge, stunning architecture and incredible geometry.

I was blessed to visit the pyramid in the very early 90's when they allowed you to walk up to the top, there is an stone table alter in the top and it has a trap door style opening behind it. They let us walk inside
and walk up the small pyramid inside to see the statue and the stone Jaguar with the huge jade eyes. There's a entrance on the opposite side also it was open then but dark and the tunnel going in was rough rocks all over the bottom so I couldn't explore it. Now that its protected I'll probably never know what secrets the opposite tunnel and trap door are holding.
