RODE NT-USB LINUX SUPPORT
21. 11. 2015 CEN
Googling around, I could not find a single mention whether Rode NT-USB microphone supports Linux or not. After some semi-encouraging words from Rode support I decided to go ahead and buy it anyway. I am happy to announce that it works out of the box and so far I did not encounter any problems on Fedora 23. The microphone is properly detected in Pavucontrol and Open Broadcaster. I am a complete amateur but to me the sound is crisp clear with zero background noise. The comparison with my old Siberia V2 headphone microphone or my in-built laptop one is night and day. These two would produce a lot of noise as soon as increasing the volume over 100% (at 100% they would be way too silent) and it was a complete disaster. NT-USB can go much louder and has no background noise even sitting 40cm from my loud laptop fan.

I didn't hear you typing on keyboard at all. I am using the same microphone and it picks up so much background noise including typing on keyboard, mouse, moving my chair, my cat from a room next to mine. How to remove all of that? I think I set my microphone gain level on 25%.

Looks a lot like a Game streaming/recording mic, with the front mouth stand and no sound from the keyboard and headphone jack already on it and the dedicated knob for it... I LIKE IT!

I'm not sure I need the microphone but I might buy it anyway, because I really want that sticker.

First I had the audio technica 2020 but I stepped on it and it broke, so now I bought this one :)
That keyboard pickup is amazing tough, can't even hear the key strokes.

I've moved on to XLR, but this IS the best USB microphone. Very natural and easy, full of conveniences. Worth every dollar.

I just noticed that I wasn't using my Rode NT-USB correctly. Thanks to your video, I'm gonna improve it.

Side note: that little electric guitar part was neat.

You're really good at the mic reviews - FYI. Not that they're difficult to do... but most reviewers overlook some of the details that are worth mentioning and testing out. You always manage hit all the important points without leaving anything out (which is surprisingly uncommon).

I am very thankful to find your channel a while back. I watched your videos because I found them interesting.
But now since I have made up my mind to actually purchase a microphone myself and start something online, your videos are so helpful, I cannot put in words.
Your honest reviews has my respect.
Your reviews are nice as you test the Microphone through out the video and also you come to a well-informed conclusion backed up by your immense experience with the relevant technology and music know-how.

Now excuse me as I go watch more videos to find a good microphone within the range of Blue Yeti.

2:03 That frequency boost of 6 Db (!) kills it for me. sibilance. spending time de-essing (de-essers are rarely just a matter of turning a knob – different voices have different sibilants, and they vary depending on many factors during recording (room, distance to the mic, what's being sung/spoken/rapped and how softly or loudly, etc).

A good ribbon mic – now that's a wonderful thing, that I've come to appreciate:)

I have the NT-USB Mic and love it. I do podcasts with it. Very clear sounding mic. The gain control is built into the mic.
