In this video, I finally tear into my 1996 Honda Accord engine. I am chasing an oil burning problem and I want to make sure that it is fixed, so I am doing a full rebuild on this motor. Hopefully you enjoy the video and learn a thing or two. Feel free to teach me a thing or two as well! Thanks for watching!

Greetings from the UK. Glad you found the issue, the hard work pays off in the end - fair play to you for finding it. This highlights the importance of "clocking" all the rings....you may have just been unlucky how the gaps ended up lined up like the stars! You must have felt so relieved when you found that, I know I would have done.

you do a great job of explaining as you go...taking time and not rushing...your logic is good and takes you down the better path... maybe use the MMO regularly and prevent the problem in the future???

Im currently tearing down f22B1 motor, got the headgasket and head ported and resurfaced, thinking i blown my headgasket. Come to find out that it didnt stop the smoking problem … got aftermarket rods and pistons and arp studs for the bottom end

I love coming back and watching your build videos bro..👍 👌 after spinning bearings in two of my f series motors.. I now have put together a hybrid motor.. f22a4 head on a f23a block. I had k20a2 pistons in my last f23a block setup and it was stooped torquey and fast.. but didn't last but 2 weeks since I found out the compression was 12:36.1 and I was on regular 91 octane with no tune or fuel management.. so you can imagine the knocking and pinging I was getting.. its my first time building motors so I am somewhat still new to certain things.. I have a new set of k20a2 pistons I want to put in this setup but the compression will be through the roof!.. 😆 so I have to invest in a hondata s300 since tuners around here will not touch a car that is on a chipped ecu.. sucks but eh.. I hear good things about hondata.. the f22a/f23a setup is pretty impressive as it is dont get me wrong.. it has lots more torque than the full f23a jdm swap I had.. something about the compression going up when you pair this certain combo together. When I break loose my headbolts I start from the outside and work my way in, I don't know if that makes any bit of a difference but when installing them I would work middle out In sequence.. so I just do it backwards but im sure both ways would work no problem.. hoping to catch up to you real soon! I'm ordering a turbo kit soon what kit did you buy off ebay? Any recommendations and tips before I make the purchase? And with the injectors and fuel pump, how hard was it to get the car started with upgraded injectors? Or is there a basemap i can load onto it to just drive around to get to the tuner? Sorry for all the questions but your by far the only selection one out the bunch that knows these motors in and out

That socket is awesome! I ended up using a 1 to 1/2 adapter and a impact made for heavy machinery haha.

Nice vid. Many people were fighting with that crank pulley bolt. Quick tip for those who have engine in their car. Remove starter and stick something to lock the flywheel.

Thanks I've been looking for a video confirming this. Only seen ones showing piston all gummed up but did not explain the situation beforehand. I'm trying to resolve this on a Toyota 3.0 engine and see you tried epr-109. I was going to try that and also switched to Pennzoil full synthetic and saw a decrease in consumption.

I've had great luck with that socket but if you ever run into one it doesn't remove I found heating the head of the bolt with Maps gas for 60 seconds, splashing seafoam on it, and going ham with a 1/2in. ratchet using an exhaust pipe for leverage gets it off of there as well.

Cool video! My engine started knocking and found #1 con rod bearing damaged “( I’m unable to remove the cap to inspect the crankshaft journal for damage. Any suggestion or advice??
Engine is still in the car. Meantime, purchased a used long block and probably be rebuilding this engine instead of my original engine if it’s not repairable.

I noticed your attention pulley for the timing belt still had an 8 mm bolt holding it in place. Some say that should be removed after the tightening procedure is done. What are your thoughts on this?

On Average, piston rings will last about 100’000- 150’000 miles under proper conditions like many other parts. Also valve guide seals will wear out fast from the extreme heat 🥵

What up everybody

I recently acquired a 97 accord with 187k on it

I got it to learn stick shift and got stuck behind a person on a hill with some one behind me 😅

I launched it and burned the tires a bit and now I hear a knocking coming from behind the engine, underneath the intake manifold and a slight clink when shifting into 1 and second but it seems ok with the higher gears

It had a timing tick already so I wanted to pull it out and tear it down to learn more about my engine and knock some stuff out

I also noticed when letting off the clutch into first gear, it judders pretty hard until I press down into the clutch and use more gas, I was wondering if this is normal

Also wanted to add a turbo but didn’t know wear to add a line or if it’s even possible on a f22b1 motor

So I have a lot of ambition but knowledgeable intel is my biggest enemy but that doesn’t scare me lol

So basically, to stop the oil burn, you just have to take out the pistons, and clean the rings with some brake fluid and a toothbrush or something?
