Why reading sheet music is HARD

This is something that only guitar players can understand. Yes other string instruments deal with this but not in the same way since guitar has 6 strings. But no TABS are still not the option. =(

This is why I use tabs. To avoid this kind of confusion.

Reading music for the guitar isn’t difficult. Learning your fretboard makes it easy. It just takes time and effort.

The way to get around this dilemma is to read the suggested timbre knowing that each position on the neck produces a different quality of tone. Having 7 places to play a melody is advantageous and something keyboard players can't do.

Difficult= True, Wrong= No. You can play the piece at any position. The choice is totally about intonation and preferences, not on technicalities

It gets worse: You can also play the whole thing on just 1 string.

I think we as guitarists need to stop hearing how it's so difficult. Yes our instrument has it's own particular perks. Thr problem is NOT the instrument it's guitarists who unfortunately seem to have embraced a kind of anti intellectualism based on the RECENT history of the instrument.

Question: How many classical guitar students FAIL to learn to read music?

EXACTLY

There is a whole cultural shift that needs to take place around the guitar for this to change.

Being able to play in many positions actually DOESN'T make things harder. Given that if there are no markings as to where the note should be played you can play it where it sounds best or is mote convenient to finger.

That you can the same notes play in so many places is an advantage. A KEY advantage. This is why the guitar is known as a small orchestra but if you can't read them you'll probably never be exposed to the fantastic compositions that allow your to exploit the guitar's orchestral timbres.

We can do this! We just need to change parts of the conversation. For example we can read everything on the same clef! Pianists can't do that!😁

I have no idea what you are on about. Sheet music for classical guitar is extremely understandable as long as you read within skill level.

Is reading sheet music/learning is really worth it? Or is it better practicing with ears and learn each song by ear ?
