OSLC Epiphany 6 2022. Service of the Word, 2/13/22

Welcome to Worship! Today we are blessed for an intersection between Lectionary cycle and popular culture. Here on this Super Sunday we hear the "Sermon of the Plain". Luke gives a different approach to the popular "sermon on the mount" found in Matthew. Here, Jesus teaches the disciples as equals, and gives them "the blessings and the woes". This strange, powerful, message is a direct ethical approach that often confronts our values with God's values.
On this glorious day of power, advertising, flashy song and dance, may we realize the core gospel reality of celebrating the broken, the lost, the mourning, because God is with them! In a culture that often glorifies the winner, the riches, the best, and the first in class as godly, today we face the stark reality of Jesus' core gospel message. God loves us all. Even the one's that are easy to throw away, and look away from.
