I grew up SDA. It’s a doomsday cult. You said it right.

I grew up in a Baptist Christian family & THAT was low key cultish to me. My own baptism as a child was horrifying and confusing. Religious people are very strange folk at times. If you're more "religious" than you are spiritual or spiritually you have alot more growing to do. Love IS God itself, and religion isn't mandatory to know that.

Any religion that teach their members to stay away from non-members: it's a cult. Isolation is key to loyalty.

My mother is an SDA but luckily it's been positive for her

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Thank you for sharing. I'm so glad you found the strength to get out.

I was raised SDA and I’m currently trying to close down an SDA “youth ranch” called project patch. It’s a horrid place. We’re called Tear The Patch- a place for survivors and supposrters

Interesting; thank you for sharing. Wished this was a longer video where you would talk more about how you got out of it; how it changed you; etc.

I've been a follower of your channel & enjoy it immensely! Really interesting & sorry for your negative experience with the Adventist Church. I have attended church in the past. There are the hard-core SDA who can be super judgemental and all about the doctrine. Others I've met are open-minded and loving even though I didn't grow up Adventist. In my humble opinion, I never thought about them as a cult because in my 20 years of knowing them they never tried to convert me, not even my my own MIL. 🤣

I think religion can be a cult if you make it about rules instead of relationship with God. Problem is so many religions teach us that God wants to whip us or beat us into submission when it’s absolutely the opposite. I’m so glad to now know and experience what truly knowing Jesus does. It’s freedom and Love. But you do have to ask for it.

Same. As soon as I was old enough I was out but I still hold the values of vegetarianism.

I grew up in Scientology and after I finally got the courage to EACAPE I realized that it had taken a HUGE mental toll on me! I mean I left school in 7th Grade! You are doing so amazing leaving that “religion” behind! ❤

Except that most SDA are not practicing vegetarians, not in the slightest. I sought them out when I moved to a new city and was excited for my first potluck. Sadly, only to find out I was the only vegan/vegetarian in the congregation and was actually looked down on by some of the members for bringing this to their attention.I never went back as this was one of the main reasons I even attended in the first place.

Man oh man I was not expecting a well-deserved call out on Adventism. They always fly under the radar.

your relationship to the religious upbringing you had is absolutely valid and as someone who grew up pentecostal i can empathize. but it is not fair to say “religion is a cult” and generalize religion as a whole like that. i recommend learning about religions outside of christianity or even learn about progressive sects of christianity. religion is certainly not for everyone but it can be a beautiful thing to some people and it is not always a cult or a high control group.

This is why I don't believe in organized religion..I don't believe I need to be in a "house of worship" to say or think that our creator loves me or us but I'm glad you made it out

I'm SDA. I've never experienced forced separation. I can say that the doctrine is biblical and Jesus IS coming sooner than we think!
God bless you!

I am not Mormon, but like to watch Mormon Stories. I have also an interesting past with a cult like religion, so it's good to hear the stories. I relate. They also interview people who have gone through a (any faith) crisis, or change, so i'd love to hear them interview you. Maybe try to contact them. Glad I found you.
