At 48 years old, having played guitar since 15, and I've been fortunate to see and hear some of the most incredibly talented musicians in my life up to now. And with each new discovery, I am humbled by the fact that what I thought wasn't possible....is. What make this performance so special are a few things: 1) His playing technique is not just a cool hat trick. It serves a purpose. Laying the guitar down and playing that was creates a precussive backdrop and allows for much faster and easier strumming abilities. It allows him to strike the guitar with a huge range of dynamics and tones. And, it creates an opening in front of his chest to allow for the amazing vocals. 2) His level of mastery on the instrument is evident...how they say "in the zone". The requirements to play what he did is not impossible for some, technically speaking, but to play it "in the zone" is another ability that can take a decade or more to achieve. It's a level of mastery, coupled with a complete ingrainment of oneself, a deep concentration, a meditative state of focus that is reached that allows him to play without effort, without error and as if he is the music for that moment. Sounds philisophical...and it is. 3) Lastly, his level of creativity is truly artistry. It's not just an everday strumming of EAD...all of it combined is uniquely expressed and creates a signature for his style of playing. This was an incredible discovery. Thank you for posting.
