Hasanabi (AKA Hasan Piker) is an American Twitch streamer and political commentator. He is known for covering the news and discussing politics from a left-wing perspective. He also plays a variety of video games, reacts to funny videos and occasionally checks out memes made by the community.

As someone who was radicalized online (raised very conservative, homeschooled, etc), these interactions are so important. They feel ridiculous from the outside, but when you're stuck in those broken conservative/lib mindsets, you're hearing a lot of these points for the first time.

Hasan isn't perfect and he's not my favorite person in the world, but it doesn't take perfection or having 100% good takes to be able to reach people and to plant seeds. I'm grateful for the work he does in online bro type spaces.

I come from Northern Ireland. The generation shift is crazy. My family before me had been attacked by the police, the British army, and radical extremists (loyalist paramilitaries). Having the conversation for gay rights wasn't heard of because we (the Irish) had to fight for the right to even exist and to be equal. To get to the ideal civilisation it is a long process

Asmon doesn't deserve the charitability, but if being charitable and civil with him helps open the eyes of some people in his audience and pulls them away from the reactionary death spiral, I'm all for it. It's not like any of Hasan's audience are going in the opposite direction just because he wasn't dead set on shaming him.

Lot of sad things about this. Sad that anyone actually thought saying some people deserve genocide, sad that lgbt people keep being used as a bludgeon against muslims by people who hate both groups, and that despite asmongold seeming to agree and genuinely willing to listen to hasan his community will probably hate him for having a genuine conversation

Asmon says he doesn't care about Palestinians being wiped out because he disagrees with their "culture", but also says that it is appalling to see them celebrate violence against a group of people whom they recognize as their oppressors.

He even says that he doesn't care about people getting bombed on the other side of the world, because it's so far away that it doesn't affect him, but somehow claims he would be compassionate enough to mourn the deaths of German soldiers if he were a Jew during the Holocaust.

It's sad that so many people take his opinions seriously.

Honestly the thing that really kills me about Asmon is that from the outside he seems like he's willing to change his mind, but he will throw himself into these complex or very grand political issues with absolutely no prior reading so he just shits out terrible takes.

Asmon was way too complacent and confident in his view of Muslims as "inferior culture", without any self-awareness and without realizing that he was being racist and Islamophobic. This ban is completely justified.
