The FIFA/Coca Cola ranking shows which countries are the best in football. A special formula has been developed that awards countries points for each match won and tied. The higher up the ranking an opponent is, the more points can be awarded. Additional points are rewarded for advancing to the knockout stages of the World Cup. In 2009, the leader of the FIFA Ranking was Spain, which had an excellent team formed from Real Madrid and Barcelona stars. In 2010, they were overtaken by the Brazilian football national team. In 2011, the Netherlands were 1st in the FIFA/Coca Cola Ranking, and from the second half of the year the Spanish were the best. In 2014, Germany was the leader, in 2015 Argentina and from the end of 2015 the Belgians. As of 2016, the top two places in the FIFA Men's Ranking were occupied by South American countries. Argentina was first and Brazil second. In 2017, the Canarinhos became the leader, followed by Germany from the second half of the year. In 2018, France won the World Cup which also gave them 1st place in the FIFA Ranking. From the end of 2018 Belgium was ranked 1st for many weeks. In 2022 that they were overtaken by Brazil.
