I have been searching the internet for a release video that makes sense both from a distance and accuracy perspective. Eventually a teacher that explains it so that a normal person can understand it. I'm playing off a 17 handicap and the first time I implemented this after one session at the driving range I played a scratch front nine. Reason was that all my drives were in the fairway and 40 yards longer than normal. Thanks so much Steve! Wished I did not live in South Africa otherwise I would have come for personal lessons.

Steve, this is really an excellent video because it gives the viewer the sequence of the pole drill. The pole drill gives the feeling, but this really showed the sequence. Of course the last half of the swing happens so quickly that it does mimic the pole drill, but the ball is struck with the flap before the arms roll over.

As a side note, I have always been athletic and have worked on my swing enough enough that when I get a chance to play often for a couple of weeks, can shoot in the mid-seventies. My lowest was a one-under par… That said, and even with some brief lessons during my playing time, I’m embarrassed to say I never felt the club come up and around my neck as I finished my swing. In over 30 years, I only felt it once, and had no idea how it happened. But watching one of your other videos, specifically where you talked about the left arm in conjunction with the hand/wrist action, being tighter to the body, as I did the drill, the club actually pulled me up and around to a perfect finish… How can someone play as much as I did, what hundreds of videos, and take about ten lessons from two instructors, and NEVER learn that finish?! I was even one of those people that went deep into the Mike Austin swing’s various teachers… Anyway, great video and a heartfelt thanks.

For so long I was trying to do a passive release and then found your videos and now I just actively release the club in its natural arc and I’m getting way better distance and accuracy . There is too much teaching of passive release . Keep up the good work

You should enshrine this video because it's the perfect explanation of what to do through the ball and the release after. It completely demystifies the golf swing. I love it! Never heard it explained better! Most golf teachers kind of expect you to already understand this, if they even understand this at all. I've never had a golf lesson that's been worth diddly wumpus but over the last year I've been looking at this system and I've hitting it longer and straighter. Forever on the journey!

Steve, I think this is one of your very best lessons ever! It confirms my impression of your many other videos completely. This shows exact movement of the backswing and downswing through impact. Perfectly.... You should not get a single dislike on this excellent video, and if you do, they should have enough respect to state it in the comments section. Thanks again for your totally unselfish giving of top notch golf instructions. The very best on the web. Dillard

Might be the best and most important video on YouTube IMHO. I was a largely habitual 5 hcp hooker of the golf ball and am a former college hockey player. For my entire golfing life, i was told and even PGA instructed to turn the lead knuckles down to the ground!!! That creates an almost automatic turning over of the clubface far too much and so that it becomes way too closed to the swing arc. My only deliberate intention over the past several months has been to flap the rt hand in the way you have instructed with the toe staying perfectly perpendicular to the intended swing arc. The later forearm turning over far after impact I’m sure happens because my yardages are strong and consistency is largely improved a ton. I believe this is the correct way the club was intended to be swung so long as the transition gets the club slotted correctly on the optimal swing arc (which I realize is a rather significant assumption). I also believe it is why Hogan desires three right hands — and any description that he or Bender or other instructors have spouted for lead knuckles down to the ground is largely the later in time involuntary releasing that occurs far after impact BUT .... an intentional effort to manipulate the lead knuckles to the ground will in fact result in inconsistencies and in some instances a too closed down face relative to the path — and for anyone like me who is proficient in another sport where an inside pathway is a natural tendency it is going to be hook city — and I mean super hot uncontrollable hooks that travel forever but not on the fairways

I have been working with your techniques for almost 3 or 4 months and the first few months were awful. After continuing to study and practice I have made substantial progress and am really hitting the ball well. I have picked up distance and consistency and my confidence is higher than before. This is great stuff.

Hi Steve, just picking up my clubs again after a 7 year break and a friend of mine recommended watching your videos before I start hitting balls again." I'm a fan" I was a single figure handy cap before stepping away from the game. I never really felt I had a consistant swing. So having now watched several of your videos I'm going to work on the methods you teach which is far removed from my previous teachings and swing. I’m subcribed and working my way through your Tube library so quite a few to catch up on. Thanks Steve

Great video. I’ve watched many of your others, especially where you mention starting the flapping motion early. You showed the example of swinging sound the pole. At what point in the downswing should the flapping motion begin?

Steve, I have a 29 handicap and a lefty and if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have experienced driving more than 300 yards! You're such a great teacher... Thank you so much!

All of the pieces of my Mike Austin swing are finally coming together, broke 40 for 9 yesterday for the first time this year. Would have broken 80 for 18 today if not for a bunch of 3 putts. So many solid tee shots and irons. After years and years of trying to figure out the swing, it is very gratifying to have finally found the man who figured out the swing.

To your point about not rolling the forearms and club shaft during impact; I imagine the head of the club is a dump truck. On the downswing the truck comes down the ramp (downward arc), goes through impact and up the ramp (forward arc). The dump truck never flips over and spills its load through impact. The truck headlights always stay perpendicular (90 degrees) to the arc. For what it's worth, it helps me prevent the toe crossing over the heel during impact.

From all the video of Mike Austin's swing you are absolutely correct, I explain the hands as the swimming fish move, Fred Couples also uses this hand motion and I think he had success . I know you can hit the ball relative straight. thank you Steve

Steve, You have nailed it with the proper action to release the club head with less effort. The left side lead and retain lag has been so misleading and forced golfers to search forever for consistency and distance . Nipper
