These European countries have really bad relations.
First we have Ireland and Britain. Only 40% of Ireland's population speaks its native language Irish, and the main reason for this loss of culture is the UK as it colonized Ireland for over 100 years.
Secondly a small part of Ireland is still under British administration.
Sweden and Turkey also have tense relations. Turkey claims that Sweden supported terrorism against Turkey by housing the Kurdistan Workers' Party. This is a primary reason why Turkey blocked Sweden from joining NATO.

There are only around 80k speakers (thats the high end estimate) so about 1.6% of the population. Those who are fluent are from specific rural fluent speaking regions so interest and use for the language is going down. Everyone takes irish as a class but its treated as a subject and not a language. People come out with barely any comprehension and lose what little they learn.

British colonisation was for around 700-800 years, not 100.

Ah, Ireland and the UK actually have a pretty tight relationship. There's obviously historical bad blood between us irish and the british but nowadays it's more a friendly rivalry, irish families generally extend into Britain and vice versa. Definitely not enemies more like friendly neighbours.

I'm an Irishman and find this statement totally false. Ireland has a very close relationship with the UK .. Trade is very strong between us, both. Tourism is very strong between us both. And we can travel freely between both countries with ease. I would think the UKs links to Ireland are the strongest out of all EU countries.. Times have moved on. Things are good..

Pretty sure the UK wouldn't hesitate whatsoever in coming to the aid of Ireland if need be and probably hold a stronger relationship than any other country, bar none... that's how much we are enemies. The Vikings did large parts of Britain over in the past but we still love the Swedes, Norwegians and Danish.

As a Brit, and a proud one at that, I’m ashamed of what we did that we shouldn’t have and didn’t what we should. It says a lot about the Irish that don’t hate today’s Brits.
For what it’s worth I consider them brethren, just as I do Aussies, Kiwis, Kanuks and to a slightly lesser extent Americans too.
