I love this upgraded design, with the gas struts. I have been working on a similar hitch to solve the typical problems ie. clearance and rear door access. However, I carry large flat-pak style camp kitchens in the carrier. The split carrier design wouldn't work. So I've made a 'Swing Out' hitch instead. However, I think I'll change the bearing design to bronze like yours. 10/10 for design and execution.

I was literally trying to look for something like this on Amazon that has a hitch that swivels out to the side for easy trunk access…nothing to be found ..awesome design !

Very nice set up! Does the tailgate fully open with the rack installed but empty? Looks like its maybe 1.5" too tall
