Rewarding people for performance has been and remains a critical challenge in enabling high levels of motivation, engagement and productivity. Selecting the best fit methods for incentivising employees requires an understanding of organization culture, employment market dynamics, motivation theories and a planned and data driven approach to the deployment of any such methods in the organization. In this lesson, we take the first step by examine briefly some of the most widely used approaches to rewarding performance, and consider the relative merits of each.
