This is unfortunately too simplistic and has too many variables to give you a legitimate answer. ‘Pot worms’, as they are sometimes called, probably don’t eat the roots as they have no teeth, but in my experience, from trying to keep a worm farm in a greenhouse, the worms migrating into the pots processed the potting mix and turned it into sludge. This takes time so you won’t see an immediate effect. Worms in the garden are fine, worms in the confined space of a pot are not.
