Is Ceramic Window Tint Worth The Extra Cost?

A window tint update video. I cover the 3M Ceramic IR Series and compare it to the Color Stable in this non-scientific test.
I realize this isn’t a completely accurate way to measure, however. The heat on the door cards was pretty obvious which tint rejected heat more.

I live in Texas and just got driver & passenger window ceramic tint for my camaro about 3 weeks ago, the back and corner are regular tinted, windshield leave untouched but use the windshield covered instead because I was a little skeptical about ceramic price and if it is worth it compared to regular tint.

And let me tell you, with only driver & passenger window ceramic, the difference was night and day! Came out of 8hr working shift the car was significantly noticeable different compared to before. It is still hot, but a lot less humid and oven feeling, you can actually breathable in it, and doesn’t required to full blow the AC to cool the car down. Now I’m thinking about get my windshield tint OR replace the back windshield with ceramic instead of regular tint. If you live in hot state such as Texas, 100% get it.

Dude has over 200k in cars and asks the question is the cost of Tint worth it.😂 very good video and good job winning at life.

Just got my windows tinted a month ago. Believe the hype, I was skeptical until I rode in a friends car with ceramic tint. It makes for a much more comfortable ride and it.

I'd say 20% in Southern states is reasonable. (though with 35% ceramic tint, you'll get better heat reduction than normal 20% tint). But in Northern states, you are much better off getting 35% tint. You don't have as much sun, and its not as strong. Secondly, really dark tint can be a cop magnet. I've had 35% tint on my 2004 Solara and 2006 ES350 for years, and never had any issues with cops. But they look sharp, and the bonus is that I can see outside at night, no impairment in night vision, or seeing my side mirrors.

Another way to measure out the temp in the interior is just to do a temperature probe set up on the center armrest. That way you can see what the interior air feels like versus just the seats.

Recommended tint percentages:
Mom level tint-20% all around
Dark but never pulled over- 5% rears, 20% front
Perfect dark but chance of getting pulled over (what i’m running and have been stopped once) - 5% rear, 20% fronts, 35% front windshield.
PS if your thinking about windshield tint and want privacy do 35%. The 50% is nice for heat but will not be anywhere close to enough darkness for any sort of privacy reasons
(I drive a 2017 BMW 330i and have my tint dark because it’s extremely loud and looks very aggressive so I get a lot of stares lol)

Good video comparison, Edward! I just had my X5m tinted yesterday. Went with Xpel XR plus. I prefer a lighter “smoked” look so went with 30% on front sides, 70% on WS, and 55% over the rear stock privacy glass. I almost went F1 stratos but didn’t like the slight bluish hue for the WS, since my car is black. On your M3 it looks great!

Thanks for the video, bud. This is pretty much the exact type of video and information I was looking for . The different car types, the tint type and %, even considering the interior color, tinting over factory, windshield info... everything.
Thank you for all the info

Awesome video thank you for all your info about tint percentage I might consider either 20% or 15% most likely 20 to be safe

My experience with the temp guns when using in an industrial setting is that they do not read accurately on reflective surfaces. I did find that shooting the reflective surfaces at an angle helped get it closer though. I would have shot the seats or arm rest. Great video and comparison.

I remember watching this guy when he had his q7. Man that truck was clean. I started watched because we have a supercharged q7.

How long did you wait to test temperature? The window tint reduces the amount of heat transmitted, but that really just slows the heating of the car, it does not limit the interior temperature . If you let any car with any tint sit outside they will all get hot.

Very good description about the tint. From my vantage point, I think I like the 15% the most too!

I swear you have a video for everything I want done!! 🙌 I may go with the 20% for my X6, same color as your X5M but black interior. This FL ☀️ is no joke and I don’t want to ruin the interior! Thanks for the video and all the details!

15% will get you a "fix-it ticket in most states. Between fixing "it", paying court costs and a fine you are probably looking at a minimum, half a grand down the drain.
ALSO... Try the very same tests in the early morning, the late evening or on a dark, cloudy day. That is when the cops will notice your 15%.

Thank you for this very detailed overview. Definitely want to tint my front windshield but couldn't decided on which type and what percentage to get. You definitely just helped me a lot so thanks!

Been using Carbon for years. I just did 5% Ceramic on my 2024 Crown Max four days ago. Love it so far. Still waiting to put the windows down, lol.
