Modern Family | Phil Feels Threatened By Luke Becoming the Man of the House

When Luke outshines Phil with a classic Dunphy family trampoline move, Phil's sense of dominance as the man of the house is shaken. Then, Phil unintentionally injures Luke with a banjo string in a fluke accident. So Phil apologises to Luke (I know because he’s his son) for getting insecure about him being better at a lot of things that he loves and wanted to thrive at, but most of all for hurting his eye.

Yet, when he lied to, humiliated and threw Mitch under the bus to protect himself and not be blamed, the bad guy or confronted; he did that to Mitch several times in the earlier seasons (Tableau Vivant and Diamond in the Rough episodes), and he never apologised to him for doing all of that or regretted that he’d done it to him?

What Phil did to Mitch isn’t like him hurting Luke’s eye here, but still, even when Mitch thought that Phil was sorry and was going to actually say it to him in Tableau Vivant, he didn’t apologise then or in Diamond in the Rough, therefore Phil should have realised how lucky he was to have and been more grateful to Mitch that he was his brother-in-law, but that just doesn’t seem to be the case from what I’ve watched and seen.
