2024 Yamaha YZF-R7 Dyno Test

How much power does the 2024 Yamaha YZF-R7 produce? We place the Japanese brand's 689cc liquid-cooled, inline 2-cylinder DOHC fuel-injected CP2 engine on the Cycle World dyno to find out.

We looked at R7, GSX-8R, and XSR900 and chose the XSR. Way more useable power and the triple has such a unique sound and there is no Triumph dealer nearby. No regrets. R7 looks the part, but the P-twin engine is pretty tame and seems to be more about emissions than rider experience. Lots of options for bikes these days.

Was looking at upgrading my 2004 Thundercat, everything new has all these two and three cylinder engines, got me looking at the 2008 fz6 & fz1. Anything newer is looking like a downgrade or over 10k

All these new mid-range bikes are low on Horsepower. My old FZ6 had over 90 Hp. What's up?

It should not get the R7 moniker. The R6 and R1 are class leaders in their classes.
This could perhaps be an SV650 contender, but way better looking. The price is too high for a first bike, but the output is about right for a beginner or someone into very technical riding (?) where output is of less importance. Haven't heard anyone saying anything near the SV650 handling, so I'm guessing it's not an iconic bike. It looks the part, but so did my KLX650R - "cast iron park bench" compared to my 610TE same year. Engine sounds unsexy, like all inline 2-cyl 270° cranks do.
