In February 1986 a bad call by a New Zealand pilot caused the Russian cruise liner MS Mikhail Lermontov to sink in the Marlborough Sounds to a depth of 37m. All of the 743 passengers survived, but sadly one of the 348 crew lost his life.

In February 2011 enthusiastic wreck diver Dean found a Sherry glass on the wreck and borrowed it. This is the story of him returning the glass for other divers to find and enjoy.

Wonderful! I served on board The Lermontov and Pushkin in the 70's...I was employed by Shaw Saville Albion as Shore Excursion Officer....at the age of 17+ was quite an experience. I still have lots of ships programmes nostalgic! Thank you x

I have been a passenger off MS Mikhail Lermontov
in 1984 July. I remember me about the kindness off the staff. Watching this Pictures
makes me a bit sad. To return the Glass, I find it good. I was only  diving in the Red Sea and the Lake Constance in
Germany

I sailed that ship three or four times...was sad to discover that it sank. Have some items from those crossings. It was a transatlantic ship. It actually went through some bad storms in the North Atlantic. I love that you are scuba diving down there. Very much enjoyed watching your video. Thanks for posting!

Excellent work, buddy; it certainly has captured the feeling of being deep into the wreck and the obstacles we encounter. Many thanks for a great souvenir!

I could never and still can't understand the politics behind the legal decision that allowed Jameison to walk away with a slap on the hand. Were it you or I, we would have been decapitated and our heads displayed atop a pikestaff. Diver Dean, you showed greater respect for the site than expeditions subsequent to Dr Ballard's, to the Titanic.
