Enneagram 1 vs. 3 | Misidentification | type A, achievement, perfectionism

I’m taking a closer look at Enneagram 1 (the Reformer) and Enneagram 3 (the Achiever), discussing the differences, similarities and why someone might find themselves torn between the two. As always, feel free to reach out with further questions or thoughts!

I have noticed that when 3s integrate to 6 they become less outwardly competitive and are able to recognize that others have achievements/talents that they too can bring to the group. I had both a 1 and 3 tell me that being either type sucks. The 3 informed me that it can feel overwhelming to know you always have to do so much. He was speaking with regards to picking up trash even--that he can't just go and relax and do what he can, but that he needed to have so many bags, etc. I laughed, because as a 4w5 I would be daydreaming the entire time.

This is really helpful as I am a 1 and work closely with a 3 and whilst we work really well together in terms of getting results it usually always comes with the price of one of us getting stressed trying to fit the mould of the other!

Great content as always! As a 9w1 (actually a 9-5-4 sp)I have a touch of the 1's ability/gift to 'see the speck of pepper on the white table cloth' as it were in others and often think, "Straighten up and fly right!" in my thoughts. A whole new level of consideration is to ask myself that perhaps they never learned how to fly... much less 'flying smoothly, straight and correctly'! The harsh inner critic (early strict religious training in me) sits in judgement on my own shoulder as well... but I can ignore it after a while being only a wing of mine. (How perfect my house should be... or how I should be the perfect whatever....)
Another thing is the 'talk style' of a 1 VS 3. 1's will tend to teach, moralize, or share the 'rules' more in conversation... (whether or not the other person asked ...) Also, 3's seem to be more of a bundle of energy getting a million things accomplished... amazing.
