When a storm hits Northern England and Scotland, the power lines are brought down around Carlisle. So my plan to travel from London Euston to Glasgow is hastily changed into a journey up the East Coast Mainline with LNER.

Annoying though it was, LNER accepted my ticket without quibble, and I still made it to Scotland with only a minor inconvenience.

Departure: London King's Cross, UK
Destination: Edinburgh Waverley, UK
Distance: 330 miles / 531 km
Cost: £86.75 (€103) Advance adult single, 1st class (with railcard discount of 1/3)
Date of Travel: February 2022
Operator: LNER
Motive power: Class 801/2 Azuma EMU (2019-2020, Hitachi)

Just found this one, but your later videos have a much more personal feel. Things moving the right way.
My local station is Taunton and I travel via London to Edinburgh and on to Glasgow a few times each year.
The system won't sell me a through ticket to Glasow via London, so i can't try Avanti. I can however book a through ticket to Edinburgh via London and then pick up the cheapest fare to Glasgow. To my mind this really cushions XCountry from direct competition on the SW to Glasgow route. It also makes the Bristol Glasgow flight a good option. I generally go up by train and fly back.

Not trying to be biased but I'd say you got an upgrade there. LNER is miles better than Avanti and the Class 801 is a superior train than the 390 in my opinion.
The pendos lack modern features such as pressurised cabins which make them feel a bit outdated for a high speed train, but the tilting is cool. They're not as smooth either as the Azumas.
Great video though I must say!

In my opinion LNER is much superior to Avanti West Coast, apart from the hards seats of the Azumas of course.

Thought you supposed to book into 1st class? Ages ago I went to sit in 1st class without a reservation and I was soon enough kicked out.

I pity those poor passengers who stayed on board until Carlisle and then faced either a slow meandering journey around the GSW route into Glasgow, or even worse, a rail replacement bus which would probably have taken more or less the equivalent amount of time to travel from Euston-Carlisle!!
