Dmart and Star Bazar and other also do same. There was famous Maysore Pak sweet from company Lal was there, but slows they started to keep less stick and more of their own Maysore Pak at 15% less price to target those who come for Lal brand. It is with other products also.

1. Test and grow in Amazon
2. If successful diversify asap
3. If offered with money for a buy out by Amazon, you know they are ready to take you down. So negotiate a good deal when possible else prepare for their takeover by going to step 2.

Same thing happened in Europe too, bit unlike india they completely banned amazon from selling any product and also fined them heavily. D-Mart does the same thing, even though I love those cheap good quality products government should really look into this as it affects various business and ultimately our economy in long term.

The regulators are looking into this (all across the globe actually) - in India the Competition Commission is currently investigating a case against Amazon and Flipkart for anticompetitive and unfair strategies to illegally maintain its monopoly power

Yeah, this has been happening for a while.
I recommend to not buy Solimo's or Amazon branded products even if it's 5-10% cheaper and support the local sellers instead.

In this particular case the company was simply doing dropshipping by buying white label products from China and selling in India. Amazon offered them a chunk of money to acquire or to partner with them which the company declined. Amazon then cut the middlement and directly started procuring same products from China at lower rate and started selling 10-20% cheaper mwhuch crushed the company's business.

Basically unless you own your product completely (design, patents etc), anyone can copy the same business.

As a matter of principle, I refuse to buy Amazon branded products, and prefer as far as possible to buy directly from retail stores in my surrounding (even if it costs 10-20% more).
