The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning 1619 Project issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. Watch this talk with Pulitzer Prize-winning creator, Nikole Hannah-Jones in partnership with Mahogany Books.

In conversation founder of Well Read Black Girl founder Glory Edim, they explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America and show how the inheritance of 1619 reaches into every part of contemporary American society, from politics, music, diet, traffic, and citizenship to capitalism, religion, and our democracy itself.

Nikole is The Realest! I Love how she shows up. She is authentic in all spaces. In a time when true journalism is almost non-existent, its refreshing when journalist do the hard work-the real work!! And she does it being unapologetically black!!! ⚡

I think we must give the history of youth/adolescent/consumer pop-culture and the 'Industrial Revolution' that it grew out of, as much attention as we do slavery, when dealing with the social /political, and economic problems we face today. That is another project that needs to be taken on. Also, instead of focusing on advanced students/education vs. underperforming students/education, can we first focus on education - the value/necessity of it? How can so many woke people call for the abolishment of police and prisons, yet can't see the need for the same kind of idealism, when it comes to education and other basic social personal responsivities? Why is there no call to deactivate ignorance and violence? Why is there no call for the people to give themselves a peace-dividend, as the world bends toward the specter of another world war? Why is there no call to 'refund the schools', so all the schools that have had the traditional courses, that were taught in all American schools, are restored to those that don't have them? Again, why are we so shortsighted, and or one sided, in our idealism? Why is there no concerted effort to challenge all American children and youth, to meet the challenges of educational learning, as so many are encouraged and willing to give an extra effort, in sports or even the arts? Where is the Black systemic and structured response, to what so many say, is a structured and systemic force, opposing us? There is a great need for a lot of Projects, to be undertaken.

I’m always leary, now a days, when a woman endorse anything. However, I will have more confidence when she submits to God entirely and stop leaning into her own understanding. If she would admit, the things she champions, are emotionally driven, rather than, spiritually guided. This recognizes and confirms the place Gods advice and recommendations play in her choices.
