3:25-3:36 one reason I love listening to this guy. He seems so transparent when he contemplates his ideas aloud, it seems honest in a way I've never heard... takes some serious confidence in one's own ability to reason out a path to a logical conclusion on the fly during a lecture (either that or I have not listened to enough lectures in my day). I bet this guy was a pain in the ass as a youngster haha.

Brilliant dissection of the Old Testament characters and their importance in the understanding of the progression of the human mind and spirit since the Ice Age. #jordanpeterson

you read that bear story in Joseph Campbells "Ancient Mythology". Referring people to search Campbell's work is the best thing you could do.

7:08 The Dr. stops, realizing the conclusion he finally came to about objective reality is "42."

An interesting thing about this is how the bible then is set up in storystructure format where it starts off as "reactive" and then turns "proactive" . I love how JP arrives at this by psycological/philosophical deduction. If he ever wrote a book about writing, he would have gold where others have not looked

It is interesting how atheists are becoming more spiritual if not Christian. What Peterson is doing with the Bible is interesting and helpful to those who do not know the Bible. However, I am not sure that intellectualizing a faith will give people a good sense of why people follow that faith. These are not just stories to many faithful Christians; this is history. God is not just an idea for them. He is a supreme being. Anyway, I like what Peterson is doing for the psychological side of things, but that does not make his lectures comprehensive in the scope of faith.

I'm having a sort of existential crisis because the idea of Christianity is that humans are a part of Jesus and if you are to follow him, you will become one with Jesus but if that's metaphorical, no problem but the more research I do into Christianity, the more I dread it because it does mean to lose your sense of identity. I want to be myself and have my own ideas about this world. Is it possible to be Christian and have your own self of self? What's the point of existence if we're being controlled by someone we can't see?

I don't believe in hyper individualism because as I've seen for the last 10 years, it's self destructive and harmful to people around one another. I believe that we should be allowed to be ourselves as long as we're not harming ourselves and other people.

Wow, that really made some un-fleshed out ideas 'click' for me and sorta blew my mind.
Originally I was like, "Oh this one only has 6, 626 views, in between a 63k and a 197k video. But I'm cleaning my room anyway, so..."
I'm glad I clicked. XD

To sum up, the Bible is one culture's ideas/myths about the development of individualism. Hmm. Moderately interesting. I've spent a lot of time trying to find deeper meaning in the Bible and how it can be applied all across human life. I've been mostly disappointed by the connections I've made. In the end, I find the message garbled and flogged into a bloody mess on the ground of reality.

If you cannot see God within you then it is that God is without you, and all things that mean nothing dwell within you. The Bible is simply an incomprehensible letter of introduction from the Creator to the created. Learn.

Jordan Peterson's trying to elevate the narcissism of his libertarian ideology to something not only benign, but apparently, also "divine" now. His ideology of the triumph of the individual fails when that individual ignores their interdependence upon others, upon their community, society, or fails to balance their own "rights" in response to the rights of others. Humans find the meaning of their being within relationships. It is the relationship between I & Thou that is divine, not the individual on its own terms. Martin Buber's I & Thou can teach us way more about the nature of the divine than this libertarian ideology repurposed for the so-called "Christian"–Right. Libertarian ideology is starkly at odds with the divine. The libertarian man is the opposite of the son of God: the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the well-being of humankind: "The egotist in the absolute sense is not the man who sacrifices for others ... Man's first duty is to himself ... His moral law is to do what he wishes, provided his wish does not depend primarily upon other men ... The only good which men can do to one another and the only statement of their proper relationship is 'hands off!'" – Ayn Rand
