Be proud that you retired early and feel confident telling others!! That's a boss move. I just got back from traveling in California and my routine is jacked. I didn't take my vitamins, exercise or take my supplements. Or read. Just ate a lot and spent $

Something that I have learned the hard way is that a lot of people do not want to hear about financial Independence and think it is crazy. For some reason telling other people about your goals in progress makes them feel bad. You really have to know your audience with this stuff. A lot of older people have told me that putting my money in the stock market is like gambling. It's okay because I know better and I just tell them how that gambling has been working out for me:)

One way I get around the awkward "What do you do for a Living?" question is I printed up some YouTube cards and I hand them out. People really get a kick out of that and it's a lot more prestigious than saying I retired at 58. Bret

My biggest learning is that capitalism is phenomenal at growing our wants and needs, making it insanely difficult to remember what truly makes us happy (and doesn't cost much).

I'm not FI - but yeah I can imagine that it's possible I come up with this strategy, and then change my mind wildly later! It's kind of disconcerting. I have lately been talking to my relatives who are eyeing their retirement. I am encouraging them not to buy a house - because they are considering where to live and I see that they are likely to change their plans a lot as they try things out. Keep options loose!

1. Set aside a percentage of your budget for "anything."
2. Just tell everyone you're a "financially-free freelancer" and you work when want to.
