The Sami people are reindeer herders living in Russian Lapland, who built their culture around the barely domesticated cervid. In Lovozero at the centre of the Kola Peninsula, the Sami organise reindeer races at the annual Festival of the North.

Originally a Sami tradition, the reindeer races attract people from around the world to see the sleigh riders and reindeers dashing through the snow at an incredible pace. The encounters with the Sami people through this journey lets us close in on the relationship between the Sami and reindeers, and the brutal nature they cope with every day.
