A6 C7 fuel tank flap issue with solution

Car model is Audi A6 Saloon C7 from 2011.
**update june 2020** On a hot day I could not open that flap using the workaround.. I hear very faint noise behind the flap when unlocking.. same on cool days now - so I just forced it open with sharp moderate force...
SSUE: the car is unlocked but pressing on the fuel tank flap door won't open it.
FINDINGS: emergency release cable (access from the boot) do not work. when you unlock your car there is no click behind the flap door, so central locking do not release the flap. Nothing is wrong with locking mechanism (rust, dust, sticking) I suppose its a central locking or computer fault.
WORKAROUND: so you are at the garage outside your car. Lock it from the key. Unlock it. Wait 1 minute or more. Press unlock again - you suppose to hear a click behind the flap. Open it as usual.

I have found repeatedly prodding / pushing the fuel flap while repeatedly locking & unlocking via the fob eventually releases it. Going to have to get it repalced or fixed by garage though - too risky to leave like that and be strnaded!

This happened to me last week on VW Jetta. I took it to a panel beater. He was able to lever it open. There was rubber shredded on the release. Works well now . No damage done.

Maybe Audi wants us to bring the key out for safety reasons and press the unlock once again just to ensure you want your fuel tank unlocked? Makes sense if it's gonna work each time.

It could be broken if it closed or open. The trick to wait is the placebo. If you disassembly the lock you will see the rusty one and will understand way :)
