London Walking Tour: Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, to Trafalgar Square

At 1000 years old, this is London's "New Town" and serves as the political center of the city as well as the country. You will visit 3 palaces and the remains of a 4th as well as the Prime Minister's residence.

I liked your description of the Queen's Guards. My wife and I were in London 2 years ago and, while touring the Tower of London, came across two young men in uniform. I asked them if they were there on duty and found out that they were on their first day guarding the Tower and the Crown Jewels. They showed us their service medals that Prince Charles had presented to them and explain alot about their uniforms and their duties as guards. You could hear the pride in their voices as they told us all of this.

I began coming to London in 1969, & a cousin of mine, who was with the Met Police, & became Diplomatic Protection, was on the door at #10 beginning with Mrs Thatcher’s tenure, so I remember the days of being able to walk right up, & stand in front of the door, as people came & went.

In 2019, I was in London & did a longer version of your walk, coupled with a Thames River cruise. What a wonderful city!
