🤔Ever wondered how much you might actually pay for EV repairs?

Wait. Electric vehicles are extremely popular in New York city. Those giant things that run underground, on ground level, or on elevated rails are everywhere.

There are Electric Cars and Electric Cars, the difference is who makes them. Which ones are you talking about?

I live in NYC and I know of no EV fires within the past two years, the only fire I know are from batteries for ebikes. Also the number of EV in NYC is growing rapidly. I have no idea what this guy is talking about.

Eight factors? I would guess he mentions about three, not that I wasted any time taking notes making a tally. And BTW, the number one reason for not wanting an EV in NYC is the climate.

The hidden cost of ownership I'm waiting to see is a battery disposal fee. It is clear that EV's depreciate at an incredible rate and the cost to maintain or repair them is exorbitant. This suggests that EV's will have an extremely short useful life before heading to the scrap heap for recycling. Who is going to deal with the hundreds of thousands of massive li-ion batteries that will have to be safely disposed of. Count on EV owners getting hit with a hefty battery disposal charge the goverment and the eco-warriors didn't mention earlier. EV's are an economic and environmental disaster.

It would be nice to see objective reporting instead of biased pieces praising or trashing EVs. Global EV sales continue to grow, although the growth rate has slowed from over 100% in 2021 to a projected 20% in 2024. If EV weaknesses continue (high cost, range anxiety, lack of charging infrastructure, and a high depreciation rate) sales growth will likely continue to slow and market penetration will be limited. (In 2023 there were 40 million EVs on the road representing 2.7% of the global light vehicle fleet). Plug-in hybrids solve the range anxiety problem and are increasing as a percentage of EV sales. That may be the road to the future.

Most of the battery fires in NYC involved EV bikes. A study by AutoInsuranceEV reported that in the US in 2023, ICE vehicles caught fire at a rate of 1, 500 per 100, 000 vehicles compared to 25 per 100, 000 vehicles for EVs. EVs are far less likely to catch fire than ICE vehicles. EV fires, however, are harder to extinguish.
