Mount Airy is known for being the birthplace of Andy Griffith. Mount Airy is believed to be the inspiration for the town of Mayberry where the Andy Griffith show was set. There are many references to the town of Mayberry and the Andy Griffith show throughout the town.

Inspiration for the Andy Griffith Show. The fictional town of Mayberry is based on this very town. This is also Andy Griffith's boyhood home. It's a very nice small town. Been here twice.
