Evangelism vs Apologetics? Which one is more effective?

I converted to Catholicism because of good apologetics, not evangelism.

I think Trent explained it well. Evangelism is bringing people to the faith; apologetics is helping people understand the faith.

You can evangelize without understanding the faith fully, and not every apologetic argument or listing of precepts will convince someone to convert or change their mind.

I think apologetics is more effective for converting Protestants to Catholicism rather than converting a non-believer. Evangelism can be powerful but only in certain circumstances, like for example if I save someone's life then I share to them the good news, it has to be tactful

The main theme that I remember hearing from nominal Catholics was that the secular world perspective told the truth and the whole story, except for them wanting to import a little Christianity or a little folk Catholicism when they wanted. But mostly they didn’t believe it was true even if they were fondly remembering parts. Apologetics are needed for unbelieving cradle Catholics to show them that what they believe is false and what they profess but don’t believe is true, and that NOT LIKE THEY THINK it is. Augustine explained that you can’t have saving faith in something that you don’t believe is true.

Every person who actively puts their faith in Jesus do so out of a combination of a hunger for Jesus and a confidence that he rose from the dead.

What most apologists don't seem to understand is that a person who doesn't see a substantial amount (beyond a "mustard seed") of evidence that Jesus rose from the dead CAN and SHOULD actively put their faith in Him anyways. Whether a person is saved is a matter of where they CHOOSE to aim their life, not what they simply do or do not know.

Effective for what purpose, exactly ? Without *God's grace* and a *lot of prayer* - and let's not forget fasting, and penance - both are completely useless. Without God's grace, *all* human action is useless.
IMHO, all human beings can do is (1) set out the Gospel; (2) answer objections. As for persuading & converting, God alone can do that. To do that, is out of our hands.
There is *vastly more* to converting a soul than argument alone, no matter how learned, intelligent, or orthodox.
