Thanks for these interesting and sometimes enlightening 42 minutes. I'd like to go to your festival in London, but I'm living in Japan and no that wealthy, so, I'll stay at the Youtube video level :)

There's all manner of power in society, if power is considered broadly.
There's the power of parents over their children, teachers over their students, employers, judges, police...
When it comes to state moderation of power, most of these relationships are governed at the local level.
When we're talking about these big, modern federations of states, we're talking mainly about the power of MONEY.
In the US, at the Federal level, the monetary policy appears to be: as much debt as possible, and all taxes should be placed on labor!
In practice, this is the broadest, most undemocratic abuse of power in play, when discussing the US government.
Money is an instrument of power. Have the "experts" taken over to manage it effectively, or have they sold hundreds of millions into indentured servitude to prop up their home values?

If you're not talking about money, you're simply not addressing modern power.
I hear a lot of counter revolutionary rhetoric from the presenters, and not a lot of real governing philosophy.
It's not having a real governing philosophy that leads to revolutions, of course.
You should probably think of other ways to address problems of state!

They are all interesting. I find P. Churchland as the least interesting as she is a materialist, not open to consciousness and mind but just eliminative materialism.

Tariq Ali's words have got this subtle ideology bias through which he sees the world. No wonder the situation of the present world isn't going to resolve anytime soon as long as people like him get the stage to speak their mind.
