This shortcut is valid only when "a" is positive. So if in integrand a is negative, take minus common first, and then apply this shortcut. Best wishes.

Use the partial fraction and solve for the unknowns to get the complete idea.

ax^2+bx+c= a(x−α)(x−β)) (01.)
(as 'α' & 'β') are roots of the quadratic equation(01)
D: Discriminant (as a short form for the method of integrating using partial fraction(s)): I think so, not sure
D>0 :Real so D remains as D
D<0 : to make the quantity within square root, D should be replaced by (-D), so that no imaginary number is there

Formula me Jo '2a' hota hai vo root ka difference hota hai, is liye ham yeah root ka difference( (D)^1/2)/a bhi use kar sakte hai but here a=1 so we can use only (D)^1/2
