History of Hubcaps & Wheel Covers - Hubcaps.com
Показать описание
In the 1900s, the first hubcaps were also known as dust caps or grease caps and were smaller then today’s version.
When steel wheels became popular in the 1930’s, two options became the norm: dog dish hub caps and stainless steel full wheel covers were all over the road.
Beginning in the 1960’s, companies began manufacturing hubcaps that simulated the look of classic wire wheels. These were much more pricey then your average hubcap and quite a bit heavier!
Plastic hubcaps started in popularity in the late 1970’s and 80’s and quickly became the standard for contemporary vehicles. Smaller, removable center caps for alloy wheels also became mainstream and are now side by side with the plastic wheel covers we see today.
