--- The Caretaker - Persistent Repetition Of Phrases ---

'Persistent Repetition Of Phrases' success comes from the attention it pays to the function of 'the loop', not only as a narrative ordering system in modern music, but as a means by which the brain itself recalls and interprets information; it's as old as recorded sound itself, but in this context the repetition of small shards of auditory information becomes an elegy to fading memory and the worn-out synapses of old age. The track titles offer signposts through Kirby's labyrinth of faulty remembrances, pointing their way towards the peculiarities dictating the manner by which the mind stores and attempts to recover information.

people seem to forget that everywhere at the end of time was the culmination of a decade long art project, and thats sad. that makes it all the more powerful

Imagine a species in another dimension, for whom total recall is a taken-for-granted capability. They stumble upon earthlings, and learn that there is a species which, though highly intelligent and creative, forgets most of their past as a matter of routine. They would wonder how we function. Then on top of that there is the complete devastation of memory for some, in old age, where after some time nothing is remembered. But we spend most of our lives forgetting most of our lives.

Fun fact:
Lacunar amnesia is the only song of this album which plays at the same speed of it's sample.

Nothing The Caretaker creates sucks. NOTHING.

Most of the samples from this album are from the Co-Optimists, a theatre group from the 1920s. I just this would be interesting to share

Lacunar amnesia, which is amnesia for a certain event and creates a gap (or a lacuna) in memory. That's why the song sounds so depressing and sullen, since lacunar amnesia usually takes place after a traumatic event. I knew of this phenomena before but never knew the name until now, thanks, The Caretaker!

False memory syndrome Is definitely my favorite, it sounds so empty but with so much feelings at the same time whilst being familiar yet not at all hence the name.

14:55 I have always felt that this is definitely one of if not the most bittersweet song made by "The Caretaker" it feels in a sense a bit nostalgic too.

whenever i heard this song I was reminded of a quote I've heard long ago that I really liked, the quote in question goes along the lines of

*"Sometimes I like feeling sad, for it reminds me that I'm only human."*

Truly an underrated album. doesn't get enough recognition. though I am glad it's not becoming an internet challenge.

When I was 5 I always listened to this while sleeping, I also listened to an empty bliss beyond this world while sleeping.

Listening to The Caretaker will always remind me of my mother who passed February of 2020 from a brain tumor. For about 2 years she had the tumor, going in and out of the hospital and to different appointments and what not. Over time, despite 2 surgeries in the span of 4 months and chemo every day, the tumor continued to grow, and as it continued to grow her memories of certain things began to diminish. She couldn't properly articulate sentences or even remember my name. She had also lost all of her sight and could only communicate by emotion. Thankfully she never forgot us entirely, as we could see how she felt when we came around, but to just watch as almost everything about this woman slowly faded away pushed me to a point beyond sadness, almost to an utter disbelief and confusion myself. In relation, I view that point in my life as a movie that was scored by The Caretaker.

The track and title name "Persistent Repetition of Phrases" really speaks to me. I also love how it reminds me of The Sopranos. When Junior Soprano's Alzheimer's really starts to ramp up, he keeps telling Tony he "Never had the makings of a varsity athletes", which progressively angers Tony. Later in the episode a doctor informs Tony that Junior's condition could cause the repetition of certain phrases. It fascinates me how The Caretaker portrays this same theme through his music.

If the Caretaker made a movie it would be a masterpiece and probably change the course of filmmaking forever

This empty portrait reminds me of the backwards-facing portrait from Stage 6 of EATEOT. They come from the same vain of ‘Whatever this frame holds is beyond you. What you see now is a part of the whole picture. That’s all you’re ever allowed.’

The second track gives me the impression of staring at a water fountain. Watching it endlessly recirculate.

Persistent repetition of phrases is one of the most underrated caretaker albums and by far the best of the amnesiac period. It’s length is reasonable, and I can’t think of a bad track in the bunch. Compared to deleted scenes, forgotten dreams, or Theoroeticlly pure anterograde amnesia, this one has every track stick out. It’s also the most calming along with stairway to the stars.

Long term (remote) is so surreal I love it. It's just the same uncanny song over and over again, which really brings forth The Caretaker's tendency to loop songs, and takes it to the extreme.

These tracks can either be peaceable or sinister. Just goes to show your how contrasted our minds can be. So much of our own brain can’t even be comprehended. What happens when we sleep? How will we ever truly understand one another, as it stands right now, it’s all just a matter of perspective.
