Don't Panic #shorts

This is a situation I observed yesterday while I was trying to get somewhere - the current temporary blip in the fuel supply chain is causing people to act like frightened animals.
If you can wait for fuel, please do.
If the world really is ending, do you really want to spend time sitting in a traffic jam?
This will pass.

George Carlin said it best;
'Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that'

I walked to Sainsburys earlier. A man who was carolling the traffic (gridlock) away from the roundabout was getting abused by a lady in a car. I went over to her and asked her what she thought he could do differently and what shouting at him was going to accomplish. She turned her ire to me but then wound her window up. The fuel station attendant said 'thanks mate, sometimes I worry about the people of this country' to which I had to agree.

Kudos for using a toilet roll as a roundabout Nice touch.

I'm pretty sure the Venn diagram for people that watch your content and people that are panic buying petrol are two separate circles.

I like how you used all the last panic items as reference! Very smart!

Instructions unclear, died listening to Vogon Poetry while queuing for petrol.

Was wondering what this was about for a sec but then remembered my brother talking about the fuel shortage. humans have a pretty scary hive mind when they want to haha

"Normal or sensible behaviour" is not the speciality of this country I'm afraid. The fact is if you read articles from before everyone started panicking, only around 1/10 stations were effected. The genuine issues were now facing are created by us.

I seriously genuinely find it difficult to not hate the British public. We've already done this twice with loo roll and twice with food in the last few years, and what happened both times? - it just came back. 4 times a thing has had a temporary slight decrease in supply, 4 times we've panicked, 4 times it's made it worse. If I made the same mistake at work 4 times I'd probably be sacked, so I don't know how these people are actually functioning members of society.

I was just thinking about you when I reading about the panic buying and what that's doing to fuel supplies in England. We had a fun experience with this just a few months back in my part of the US. This cycle of self-induced emergencies caused by misinformation and short sighted people is going to be the new crisis of the decade I think. Good luck and I'm thinking of you my dude!

I was just in the petrol queue for hours!

Eventually it was my turn at the pumps. I got so emotional... I started to fill up..

The blame should be squarely pointed at newspapers and the media who have overblown this "blip" and caused mass panic.

the right of way is to the car that is already on the roundabout
however, you should only enter a roundabout(without traffic lights) if the path to your exit is clear or moving
some people forget this second part and launch themselves into the junction, leading to gridlocks like this

This is why im so confused about the rush to get petrol. an additional weeks worth of petrol is gonna make F all difference if we are literally running out lol.

Brilliantly put! We have a similar situation where I live. If one of the two petrol stations has a fuel delivery then main roads just get jammed. If both local petrol stations have fuel an entire section of South London is completely gridlocked. Partly from people queuing and partly from people trying to use side streets to avoid the ques. It’s just madness.

And let me guess - they all had their engines running whilst queuing up to get said fuel?

I see similar panic buying every time there's an impending hurricane. Be it gasoline, food, or generators. (This last always gets me. At some point, wouldn't you think that everyone who wants a generator would have already purchased one, given the frequency of hurricanes on the US Gulf coast?)

I really enjoy your videos, they are always based on something new. Keep up the great work Atomic Shrimp, you are such an inspiration!

This really shows me how uneven the covid situation is around the world: I read news of gas panic in the UK, ongoing lockdown in Australia, meanwhile here in Italy everything is _almost_ back to normal: stadiums and theaters have reopened for people who are double vaccinated and there are no shortages of anything. Considering how inefficient this country normally is compared to others, I wonder what the factors are at play elsewhere.

Ugh! I have no tolerance for people who feel like it’s ok to cut in line.
At a Walgreens the other day, I was again reminded of how rude and oblivious some people can be. The typical arrangement is a 1 line checkout system, which is usually sufficient. Occasionally, if the line gets too long, another store associate will open up a second register temporarily, until the congestion is relieved. But, the ‘1 line system’ still applies. The next person in line simply goes to the next available register. Simple! Right? Wrong… While standing about 5th in line, some lady made the brilliant deduction that it would be faster if she just went and waited behind the person at the secondary register. I was not in the mood. I spoke up and said, “Lady, there’s one line.” She pretended not to hear anything. I then walked up and wedged myself between her and the person checking out (social distancing be damned!). I then heard an indignant “Excuse me!”, from behind, which I completely ignored. The person in front of me finished, so I motioned for the next person in line to come in front of me, and so on, until it was actually my turn. It’s astonishing how some full-grown adults never learned common courtesy.

A small part of me wants to watch the world burn, it seems humanity may deserve it. Though a larger part of me is depressed by a percentage of the population's seemingly default; self centered, thought devoid, composure lacking approach to a relatively low level of fear.
