I pulled this off and I ran into two issues I think you’d like to know about if you’re doing this yourself.

1: You have to unbolt the black box by the passenger side headlight in order to give the alternator enough wiggle room to come out. It should be 3 screws. I also found that it was easier to take a zip tie and tie it to the black hose that runs above the alternator and tie it off to the oil dipstick to keep it pulled out of your way. You also have to unscrew the O2 sensor (the black plug above the alternator) the base should come off with a 1 1/8 socket as he mentioned. Lastly, the alternator best comes out 180 degrees horizontally or even the side that faces the engine facing straight up in order to squeeze it out works best.

2. The bottom bolts of both the alternator and tensioner are in slotted holes, this means the bolt does not have to come all the way out for you to pull it out, only the top and front one on the alternator need to come all the way. You may have realized this because the bottom bolt hits the frame. Ask me how I know… Anyway, take a pry bar and separate the stud from the mounting hole. All you have to do is bust loose the screw until it’s able to be loosened by hand. I fought with this for two hours until I realized that bolt doesn’t go through a normal hole. The tensioner is the same way. You can actually put the bolt all the way through the alternator when adding the new one and slide it into the slotted hole and tighten and torque it down once it’s in place. Anyone that says you have to remove anything else other than what’s shown in the video doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Wish you would have shown how to remove the alternator from the engine compartment. Two hours later I figured out that you have to turn it 180 degrees. This way the pulley clears everything. All the other info was very helpful. Thanks for your help.

Great video, gained a new subscriber!! This and comments added by others made all the difference. In and out in just under 3 hours.

Drop the ac condenser - 4 bolts and easy to get to (and the 10mm clamp up on top) will give you plenty of room.
Don't take the tensioner all the way off. Under the upper 12mm and loosen the bottom until you can rotate it backwards. Plenty of room
Dont worry about the bottom alternator bolt coming all the way out like many of said, the bolt sits in a 'C' channel. Unless it's rusted in, loose should do it. Once you see, it will make sense.

A set of ratcheting wrenches make all the difference.

You'll want to remove the 3 bolts there that support engine, mount, and then the 3 nuts as well. With a floor Jack with a piece of wood underneath the oil PAN, supporting the engine. Once you have all 6 removed out. Yeah, then you can lower the engine. Take out that bottom bolt. Then you'll have to jack the engine back up with the floor Jack. Just enough, so you can get the alternator out. Then you wanna put the bottom bolt into the alternator not all the way tight, because there is a channel that will allow you to rest it into the motor without having to go up-and-down and get with the floorjack. You'll still need to use the floor Jack to raise it and lower it to put the motor mount back on. And then you're right home free.Finish your bolts, connect your electrical and go Zoom Zoom again

Did you have to lower the AC compressor to get it out? I can’t seem to get that last black bracket out of the way

Those punkass clips!! Gah

Just got done replacing the serpentine belt, stretch belt and belt tensioner. Have her all buttoned back up just to realize after 50 miles that it’s the alternator pulley. I’m not looking forward to digging back in here. 😭

Brooo.. I'm trying not to break that cap off(even though I know it's not really needed, just a safety thing🤷🏾‍♂️) but how did you get it off without breaking it?

Bro what is a good place to the new alternator from? I live in Costa Rica and nobody sell it here so I need to buy from there? Any good online store?

Boss how were you able to get that bottom screw out? Mines is a 2015 but it’s stuck between the frame and the alternator can’t get it out
