The Glass Castle is an amazing book...but also one of the most frustrating and sad books I've ever read. I had to read it in high school and, ten years later, that book still sticks with me. I like dark and dysfunctional stories myself, but they hit harder for me when it's a true story.

It's good you have so many romance books to balance out the grittier entries on this list! I've never heard of Tender is the Flesh or Lives of the Monster Dogs, but I'm adding them to my endless list of books to check out. They sound intriguing.
