This song must be taught in our schools. It is a vitally important part of our history and meaningful for so many fellow citizens. If you never heard it before, the answer to "why" is a key element of systemic racism. It is up to us to repair that wrong. I would love to see school choirs across the nation learn this song and create a massive Juneteenth celebration of its singing. Beyonce is teaching the children...! So should we.
