It’s a Corolla from the side, an old civic from the back and crosstrek from the front

The concept car was stunning. The actual car is 100% turd....

I could see Subaru going back to the drawing board for next year for a whole revamp after this failure.

Looks aside, I'm surprised that the top spec trim with the better Recaros, drive modes and adaptive suspension is not available with the 6-speed stick. Seems like an odd choice for a car that has a 75% manual transmission take-rate? Or am I missing something here?

The plastic cladding will never grow on me. If Subaru can't be bothered to paint the body trim, I can't be bothered to buy the car. I currently own a 2017 WRX. I will not be owning a 2022 WRX...

A bigger displacement engine with a whopping 3 hp and 0 ft-lbs gain!! And that black rear bumper is to die for!!! Subaru knows what the WRX/STi owners/fans want then release the exact opposite … brilliant 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The WRX went downhill as soon as Subaru started offering a CVT. On the bright side 08-14 WRXs just went up in value. 😂

It's a shame Subaru doesn't have a relationship with you guys. It's their loss!

No amount of seeing in person is going make the body cladding look better, Subaru Phoned in the design its like the bean counters designed the car, the new WRX is not on my list of cars i want to buy, Just so ugly looking. Also plastic cladding is so hard to keep wax off of. Just utterly dissappointed and depressed about the new WRX.

The new '22 Crosstrek looks great! 👌 Plastic everywhere, just like my grandpa want. I can't wait until they revealthe WRX/STi... Truly a sad time we live in when KIA and hyundai are offering more exciting options than subaru and Mitsubishi...

The WRX used to be a budget street fighter, lean and mean that could out punch it weight/price class. This appears to be an appearance package on a luxury compact with a performance offering.

My stock 2015 just increased in value 👍

If they bring back the hatchback it's just a lowered crosstrek turbo then ? They should of called this the all new Wrx Wilderness Edition.

The bigger engine is probably a way to meet emissions and mpg standards with a less aggressive tune while “increasing“ horsepower. Probably will be more reliable as well. Kind of like the 7.3 V8 that Ford is using but only has 430hp.

Definitely a swipe to the left. They just came out with a beautiful 86, why couldn’t they follow similar design queue?

Subaru in general, not just the WRX is plagued from greatness because of the CVT. The CVT ruins the Outback XT models, the Forrester, and the WRX. If they could only work with ZF or even ASIN and use their great 8 or 9 speed auto box, then those vehicles would be class LEADING.

As far as the modest power increase goes, this engine makes similar power on regular 87 octane Unleaded gasoline in the Ascent and Outback XT, so its possible these WRX power numbers are on 87 octane, whereas the old FA20 requires premium 91 octane gasoline. They are probably also trying to leave a bit of head room for the STi version, which may only require 91 octane this time instead of 93 octane like the current car.

As for the looks, I don't hate them, but I also have been looking at buying a Crosstrek to replace my 2006 Impreza Outback Sport since they stopped making the WRX hatchback in 2014. The interior is definitely an improvement, but they really needed to release a hatchback version. The WRX was the king of hot hatches at one time, and many owners and potential buyers of the Impreza and Crosstrek have asking for more powerful versions. They finally put the 2.5 liter engine in the Crosstrek, but you can't get it with a manual. In fact, if you want a manual transmission in a Crosstrek or Impreza you have to give up pretty much every other option, including things that are standard with the CVT like keyless entry and push button start. As someone who prefers to drive a manual transmission, it is really hard to shop for a Subaru these days without feeling like you are buying a 10 year old car, since you can't get most of the newer technology you expect to see these days on a Subaru with a manual. I don't know who is in making these kinds of decisions over in the product planning department, but they are making me seriously consider getting a new Civic hatchback or Volkswagen GTI over a Subaru. I hope they realize soon that people buy manual transmissions because they prefer driving them and not because they are cheaper, but I doubt they are going to pull their heads out of the sand and remember the enthusiast driving community that helped make their brand what it is.
