iBook G3 Clamshell mSATA SSD Upgrade

Today we upgrade my iBook G3 Clamshell with an mSATA SSD. To be honest... it doesn't make a huge impact on overall speed. The process is ridiculously complicated, so be sure to watch this one to the end.

This is the second part of the sassy G3 Clamshell - the actual build. In this video we disassemble the machine, install an SSD, check the RAM (which is already maxed out), then fail to install Diablo and Starcraft.

Get out of town you say? I can't.

I think I mentioned this on another video of yours, but I acquired a 2000 graphite clamshell iBook SE last month and went nuts with upgrades: a 64 GB CF card for a hard-drive, 576 MB of RAM, a DVD-ROM drive, and the transparent screen bezel and glowing Apple logo mods.
Over the last couple of days, I've gone even more nuts: I replaced the DVD-ROM drive with a PATA hard-drive caddy, which now has a conveniently-removable 32 GB mSATA SSD running Mac OS 10.4 Tiger.
My clamshell iBook has DUAL SSDS, and it's AWESOME.

Wait. I see a cap on there that needs to be replaced. Can you quickly remove the board again so we can check ?

Exactly the same SSD setup I put in my PowerBook G4. That little white case is ubiquitous. This looks like it's even more painful than changing the harddrive in a PowerBook G4 and that was bad enough. Brave man.

People say, that the newer iBook G4's are hard to get inside. I managed to change a hard drive in a iBook G4. But these G3's are pure nightmare :)

you should probably add a disclaimer to this video: "must be high to fully get the content of this video"... lol 🤣😂

I used a similar MSATA and case to replace the spinner HD in my Pismo, and it worked like a charm. Your victory dance was a whole lot better than mine, though 😆

I love the burping, fart comments, and other random noises. It's why I subscribed!

if you leave off the cover off the mSATA you can cut a whole into the metal cage above it, and then you'll have access to the mSATA just by lifting the keyboard, no need to ever take it apart again, unless maybe to clean or take care of the caps

Cool. Might do this mod on the P1 233mhz. It will either beep or not detect the drive. Lol
