NEW ORLEANS – A record crowd of 5,215 fans at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium witnessed No. 20 Tulane baseball defeat No. 8 LSU, 4-1, on Tuesday night, giving the Green Wave its first season-series sweep of the Tigers since 2007 as well as its fifth-straight win.

How It Was Won
Tulane (27-13) took an early lead in the bottom of the second after Lex Kaplan scored on a Hunter Williams groundout. The Green Wave added two runs against LSU (27-14) in the bottom of the fifth on a Jeremy Montalbano RBI-single followed by an LSU error that allowed Grant Witherspoon to score. In the bottom of the sixth, Jake Willsey posted his sixth home run of the season, as well as his first since the two teams last played. J.P. France held the Tigers to just six hits across 7.1 innings, and the lone Tiger run scored on a balk in the top of the eighth.

Quote
"I think (Tuesday’s win) is huge, not only because it was LSU but the fans are getting behind us. They understand how hard our players are working. We beat a very good team. My hat goes off to Paul Maineri and his team. I know they'll do well the rest of the year. I'm just so proud of our guys. It was a great performance throughout the game."
